A Household Supply List ensures that you have what you need on-hand at all times! I take my job as a homemaker for my family very seriously, and one of my favorite ways I do that is through making sure we have what we need when we need it.
Every 6-8 months I do a massive prep haul for our home and I want to share my list with you so you can do the same for your family, if you desire. I like to keep supplies on hand in case we have an emergency happen (layoff, sharing with family/friends, natural disaster, etc). I know that not everyone has the space or budget to do it on this scale, so I urge you to start small…having an extra months worth of household supplies will come in handy more than you realize! Do what you can with what you have, it will always pay off.
Disclaimer: it took me a long time to build up to prepping on this scale. I did it on a smaller scale for myself throughout college, so when I got married I knew I wanted to continue prepping in this way for my family. All it took was not having deodorant one time for my husband to understand why I do this- LOL! Now, he is completely on board.
Keep reading to see how I use the Household Supply List to prep in 5 steps:
- I start by making a list of what we use around our house. The key to prepping is ONLY BUY WHAT YOU NEED! There is no use in spending money on things you don’t like or use- you’re better rolling down your car window and speeding down a highway with your wallet wide open.
- Then, I take inventory of what we already have. After you take inventory, make a goal of how much you want to have on-hand. It can be 1 month, 3 months, or even up to a year! Whatever your goal is, make sure its attainable and give yourself grace if it doesn’t happen right away.
- Look around for sales. This is such an IMPORTANT step- if you don’t have to pay retail, don’t. For instance, I shop in September and February/March. The turn of seasons always brings sales AND its a great time to re-organize if you need to, or shake things up if you want to try new products. Just as an example, I ordered part of our prep from Target this week and when I shopped they were running a special on cleaning supplies and body care so I was able to get gift cards for buying a certain amount AND they had 20% off for teachers so we used my husbands discount to save a huge chunk on the total order. When you buy is just as important as what you buy.
- Next, I purchase what we need! Most of the time its from a combination of stores so its usually a week-long ordeal, but now that a lot of stores ship a wide variety of things its really easy to get it shipped to our house.
- Lastly, I organize our inventory so the oldest is used first. If its new, it goes to the back of the pile!
Once you get in the hang of doing this, its really easy to make it a part of your budget and lifestyle! If you need help getting started on your list, mine is below- I hope it helps you get started on your prepping journey♥️
