Buckle up and hold onto your brooms, friends! This recipe is going to knock. your. socks. off. Or wands out of your hands? Whatever it is, its going to knock it off because it is just that good!
As Fall continues, all of the Harry Potter movies run on a loop in the Woodhouse home. We are BIG HP fans, but sadly, Cor and I are still waiting on our letters to Hogwarts (sobs).
As any fellow Harry Potter fan knows, Butterbeer is a sacred pastime to share with friends on a weekend in Hogsmeade. It is described to taste like butterscotch, but no one truly knows what is in it.
If you have ever been to Harry Potter world, you know just how good this treat is! Universal won’t release the ingredients list, so I guess we will all just be left wondering…
Until now!
I have tried so many different recipes, but I have finally nailed down one that is as close as you will get to the real deal! AND, its customizable!
The trick is to make your own butterscotch syrup. So, not only are you getting a drink recipe, but you are snatching up my secret ingredient to make the drink as yummy as the original! If you don’t want to make your own, you don’t have to! Just grab some at the store, but I urge you to try it both ways and see the difference homemade syrup makes.
Here is what you will need to make 2 servings of Butterbeer:
- 2 cups of Vanilla Ice Cream
- 1-1.5 cups of Cream Soda (you will also need to freeze some, so have extra on hand)
- 6 tbsp of Homemade Butterscotch Syrup (you can use less or more depending on how butterscotch-y you want it)
- Handful of Cream Soda Ice Cubes
- Whipped Cream (used to top your drink)
Supplies:
- Blender
- Measuring Utensils
- Ice trays
Here is what you will need to make the Butterscotch Syrup:
- 1/3 cup Brown Sugar
- 2.5 tbsp Butter
- 2 tbsp Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream OR Almond Milk
I splurged on making my own butterscotch syrup since I am Dairy-free, but to take out some of the dairy I used almond milk in place of HWC and it is still just as yummy! It doesn’t solidify as much as an original recipe, but that doesn’t bother me, but if you do want it thicker use HWC.
To make the Butterscotch Syrup, melt the butter on a stovetop. Once melted, add in your brown sugar, vanilla extract, and HWC or Almond Milk. Once combined, bring mixture to a simmer and continually stir until it thickens and all sugar is melted. If you use Almond Milk, it won’t thicken as much so allow it to simmer until all sugar is melted and thickens as much as it can.
How to make your very own Butterbeer:
- Freeze cream soda in ice trays overnight. These will be used when you blend your ingredients together! If you don’t have time to freeze cream soda, use ice cubes and add in more cream soda to the mixture.
- Combine all ingredients into a blender and blend until you have reached your desired consistency.
- Pour in mug of choice and top with whipped cream.
- ENJOY-it really is that easy!
This Butterbeer recipe is so easy to make and is beyond yummy!
