Another favorite DIY in my book- I love homemade wax melts and how easy it is to create your own scent in just a few minutes!
In my homemade candle tutorial, I talked all about how I am a freak when it comes to my home smelling good all the time, but was getting headaches and congestion from store-bought candles, air fresheners, and wax melts. Once I read about the ingredients in candles and wax melts, I was not shocked that they were the source of these issues.
If you are looking for a more natural way to make your home smell fresh and clean, you are in the right place! This homemade wax melts DIY will have you smelling up up your home in no time (in a good way😉).
Homemade wax melts would also make the perfect gift for your loved ones for birthdays, Christmas, or just because❤️

Here are the supplies you will need to make homemade wax melts:
- 1/2 cup of Beeswax
- 1/8 cup of Coconut Oil
- 15-25 drops of Essential Oils ( I use REVIVE oils and love everything about them- use code madiwoodhouse10 to receive 10% off your first order)
- Candle Making Kit
- Silicon Molds
- Mason Jars
- Labels – so you know what scent your wax melts are! These are the perfect size to fit mason jar lids- see below⬇️
*Your exact amount of wax melts will be determined by the size of your silicon molds. If you are using the exact molds that are linked, the recipe above will make 14-16 wax melts depending on how full you fill the molds (1 tray full + some).
Here are the steps you need to follow to make homemade wax melts:
- Once you have gathered your supplies, lay out your silicon molds on paper towels, a baking sheet, cutting board, etc. so if you drip wax it won’t ruin your countertop or work area.
- You will be using the double-boil method to heat your wax, so bring a small pan of water to a rolling boil. Once boiling, place your candle making container over the heat and add in beeswax and coconut oil.
- Stir wax and oil until melted and combined while still over the heat.
- Once completely melted, remove from heat and add in your essential oils (Keep scrolling to see my favorite blends❤️).
- Stir to combine all ingredients. Your wax will cool quickly, so make sure you are completing these steps in a timely manner.
- Once combined, pour wax into molds and let sit until cooled. Be careful not to move molds around while wax is cooling so it doesn’t splash out.
- Let your melts sit until completely cool (around 30 minutes) and pop 2-3 into a wax warmer and enjoy your fresh fragrance! If you aren’t ready to use them just yet, store in an airtight container (I use mason jars).
