Christmas season is around the corner, and now more than ever we need the extra happiness and cheer!
We decorated for Christmas on November 1st this year, and I know that kind of sounds insane, but it has completely livened the mood in our apartment and we are so excited to sit around the lit up tree at night and share some 1-on-1 time together watching our favorite shows and eating cookies.
It may sound silly, but it really has brought us back together as a family and has pushed us to focus on cherishing the happy moments instead of getting sucked into the dreariness that 2020 has been.
For Cor and I, our apartment is a temporary home until we find a house we want to purchase, so our goal this year was to keep decorations simple. We chose Classic Christmas Decor that we will use for years to come and use no matter what our “theme” of the year is.
My big must-have purchases that I wanted to make this year were:
- Flocked Wreaths
- A Table Cloth
- Christmas Serving Dishes
- Tree Collar
In years past, Cory and I bought a pre-decorated flocked tree from a fundraiser in our hometown that the senior class made to donate (shout out to my 2019 babes).
I have been so sentimental about that tree because it was my first senior class that I taught and it was decorated absolutely beautifully!!!
Well, last year we had a Valentine’s Day tree so I undecorated it and then the rona hit and the tree went back into storage. I pulled the tree out for the first time November 1st and it needed major TLC.
So, after thinking about it, I really wanted to do more simple decor (and truthfully, I didn’t want to buy more stuff that we would have to move soon and find storage for) and after browsing around I settled on decor from…
WALMART!
I usually buy decor at Hobby Lobby or Target, but this year I was so impressed with Walmart’s selection that I bought everything on my must-have list there!
I was happy, and Cory’s wallet was even happier. We opted for just doing a tree “topper” with glittery gold and red picks and a natural tree collar.
I also snagged 4 flocked wreaths to match our tree that I am using on our inside doors, and I plan to use them inside our house in the future.
My favorite finds were the tree collars, and yes, that’s plural. I ended up buying a copper collar and a natural collar. They were both less than $20 so it was a STEAL compared to the ones you find on Target or Amazon.
Lastly, I got a lot of cute figurines, twinkle lights, cookie trays, wreath hooks, a beautiful thick table cloth, and serving dishes!
My mother-in-law always has the cutest decorations around their house and I wanted to recreate that look for Cor since he loves it so much! She also has the most beautiful tablecloths that always looks so chic, so I figured it was time for me to try that out as well, too.
I also found the best tree timer with a remote, too!
Overall, I am so happy with how our Classic Christmas decor turned out and I can’t wait to use these items year-after-year. Below, items I snagged and similar items are linked so you can get great deals too!
If you are one of those die-hard, only decorate for Christmas after thanksgiving types, I challenge you to throw that out the window this year and give decorating early a shot.
I know we still have Thanksgiving to check off the list, but 2020 needs all the extra happiness and cheer it can get and this is an easy way to do it!
I hope that you have an amazing holiday season and that your family is blessed in every way.
Also, don’t forget that Jesus is the reason for this season, so if your time or budget doesn’t allow you to splurge on new decor or keep up with the trends, it is OKAY! Celebrate this beautiful time with your family and share the good news that He is here.
Merry Christmas, Friends!
